Start with the thing that surprises people arriving from other games: Lunia has no stat points. There is no window where you drop five points into STR and regret it later. Your four stats come from your class and your level on a fixed table, and everything above that comes from gear, pets and rebirth. The only points you choose how to spend are skill points.
What a level gives you
The cap is 99. Equipment restrictions, quest ranges and the experience table all stop there. Every level up hands you four things:
- a fixed stat increase set by your class table
- more HP and MP, derived from the VIT and INT you just gained
- 1 skill point, or 2 if your new level is a multiple of 4
- a full HP and MP refill, because levelling heals you
Compare stats in context
STR, DEX, VIT and INT contribute to different parts of a build. Skill damage, attack, critical chance, critical damage, HP and MP are separate values, and the return on each depends on the character and the game mode. Read damage and defense before applying an old all-skills formula or reading the Defense display as pure avoidance.
Your class picks a major stat for you
Your major stat decides which curve you sit on for critical damage and cooldowns. These are the values you reach at level 99 from levelling alone, before a single piece of gear:
| Class | Major | STR | DEX | VIT | INT | HP | MP |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Arien | DEX | 217 | 285 | 242 | 267 | 1474 | 1647 |
| Arta | INT | 217 | 206 | 242 | 326 | 1474 | 2014 |
| Asuka | DEX | 257 | 226 | 261 | 266 | 1593 | 1642 |
| Dacy | VIT | 168 | 285 | 222 | 256 | 1350 | 1580 |
| Dainn | INT | 168 | 255 | 222 | 353 | 1350 | 2185 |
| Dark Eir | INT | 217 | 206 | 242 | 326 | 1474 | 2014 |
| Eir | INT | 217 | 206 | 242 | 326 | 1474 | 2014 |
| Gaon | VIT | 257 | 226 | 261 | 266 | 1593 | 1642 |
| Iris | DEX | 217 | 325 | 242 | 227 | 1474 | 1399 |
| Kali | INT | 217 | 206 | 242 | 326 | 1474 | 2014 |
| Krieg | VIT | 279 | 248 | 298 | 165 | 1826 | 1017 |
| Lime | VIT | 236 | 325 | 242 | 227 | 1474 | 1399 |
| Ralph | VIT | 279 | 248 | 298 | 165 | 1826 | 1017 |
| Ryan | DEX | 237 | 265 | 242 | 267 | 1474 | 1647 |
| Sieg | VIT | 257 | 226 | 261 | 266 | 1593 | 1642 |
| Tia | DEX | 217 | 325 | 242 | 227 | 1474 | 1399 |
| Yuki | INT | 177 | 246 | 222 | 364 | 1350 | 2252 |
Two of the VIT-major classes, Dacy and Lime, grow more DEX than VIT. Their crit damage still keys off VIT, the smaller of the two numbers, so gear VIT is worth more to them than the table suggests. Your major stat also feeds the immobilise value your hits use to break an enemy's poise, contributing major stat / 5.
Skill points
Total points earned by level L is L + L/4 rounded down.
| Level | Points earned |
|---|---|
| 1 | 1 |
| 10 | 12 |
| 20 | 25 |
| 40 | 50 |
| 60 | 75 |
| 80 | 100 |
| 99 | 123 |
The spending rules are strict:
- One rank at a time, one point per rank. There is no bulk purchase, and a high rank does not cost more than a low one.
- Removing a rank returns the point, one for one.
- Every rank has its own gates: a character level, sometimes a rebirth count, sometimes a cumulative level, sometimes a prerequisite skill. All must pass.
- Points cannot take a skill all the way. Each skill caps how far your own points reach. Ranks above that cap exist only through bonus skill levels granted by gear, up to +9.
Now the part that decides your character. Buying every point-buyable rank in a class costs far more than 123: 348 for Arta, 331 for Tia, 312 for Krieg, 296 for Sieg, down to 202 for Kali, the leanest list in the game. At 99 you can afford roughly a third of your class. Specialising is not a playstyle choice, it is arithmetic.
Plan skill spending
Choose skills you can use reliably, compare each next rank in the skill browser, and keep MP costs in the plan. Check reset requirements before spending on the assumption that changing the build is free. The adventurer handbook provides a complete planning checklist.
Rebirth, in one paragraph
Rebirth depends on the book used. [Chaos] Rebirth Book 1 keeps your level, EXP, quests, licences and learned skills. Read the exact book before using it. Permanent skill-point rewards depend on your level when you rebirth:
| Level at rebirth | Stored skill points |
|---|---|
| Below 70 | 0 |
| 70 to 79 | 2 |
| 80 to 89 | 3 |
| 90 to 98 | 4 |
| 99 | 5 |
Rebirthing below 70 pays nothing, so there is no such thing as an early rebirth. On top of the points, each rebirth adds a flat stat bonus at seven milestone levels (1, 20, 40, 60, 70, 80 and 90). Your first rebirth adds +5 to all four stats at each milestone, the second +7, the third +9. The major stat runs a separate, steeper ladder of 5, 9, 13, 17, so from your second rebirth onwards it pulls away from the other three. Rebirth also unlocks ranks outright: over 1300 skill ranks require at least one rebirth, and some are gated on cumulative level 75, 90 or 180, which is your level totalled across every life.
Experience, for the curious
| Level | XP to reach the next one |
|---|---|
| 1 | 233 |
| 20 | 116,358 |
| 40 | 639,324 |
| 60 | 2,415,396 |
| 80 | 8,504,712 |
| 98 | 23,815,744 |
The full run from 1 to 99 is 416,302,395 experience, and 92% of that sits above level 60. PvP level and War level run on separate tables and cap at 60 and 75.
